Based on the best seller novel by Gregory Maguire, the story of Wicked revolves around the profound friendship between two sorcery students. The musical proceeds with the friendship between Glinda the famous, blonde girl and Elphaba, a misunderstood green girl reaching cross roads with differing opinions. Glinda who is self obsessed has a desire to be all powerful while Elphaba is determined to be true to herself and everybody around her. This determination does not prove to be favorable for her, leading to unexpected and shocking consequences later.

Glinda narrates the story of her friendship with the Wicked Witch of the West- Elphaba as a flashback. The tale unrolls with their bond of friendship falling prey to misunderstandings. Despite of having differing viewpoints about the rule of Oz and the political issues, they think alike in terms of falling for the same person. The resulting jealousies end up with casting spells to get things going in their own way. The evil side of the witches urges them to take revenge from each other. The rivalries lead to a series of interesting events throughout the musical along with the introduction of other characters. It showcases how wicked the witches can get with their magic on the characters associated with them throughout the story, leading to an unexpected end of the story.
