Van Halen is a heavy metal/hard rock American band that has gained more attention for the dramatic exits of its former members such as Sammy Hagar, Gary Cherone and Daivd Lee Roth.  The group formed in Pasadena, attained mainstream success with the release of its first album titled Van Halen in 1978. Since 2007, the band has sold as many as seventy-five million copies all over the world, alongside creating the biggest number one hits on Mainstream Rock charts of Billboard. As per RIAA reports, Van Halen is among the best-selling artists of all time, taking the nineteenth place, selling more than fifty-six million albums within the USA. It is one of the top five rock groups to create two albums that have sold more than ten million copies all the United States. According to the RIAA, in 1996, the group’s debut album went diamond with ten million sales in the US. In 2007, Van Halen started on a tour of North America alongside Roth. By the end of 2011, the group declared another upcoming tour for the following year while also offering a new studio album after fourteen years, titled A Different Kind of Truth. Brothers Alex Van Halen and Eddie Van Halen were arranged to be given music lessons in their childhood, so that the two began performing together in the sixties when Alex was on guitars, and Eddie was on classical piano and drums. By 1972, Van Halen brothers founded a group called Mammoth with Eddie was its front man and guitarist, Alex as the drummer and Mark Stone as the bassist. Two years later, Stone was replaced with Michael Anthony as the lead vocalist and bassist from a known local group called Snake. The band then decided to call itself Genesis but on finding out that the name was already taken, they switched to simply being called Van Halen. At the time, they performed at private parties and flatbed trucks in Hamilton Park, later going on to playing at famous clubs in Hollywood and Pasadena to widening fan base that was expanding due to their self-promotion initiatives. Before every gig , the band would give out fliers in nearby high schools, which soon enough brought them a considerable following. Towards the end of 1974, the band finally experienced its first break on being offered to perform at the GAzzarri’s night club.
 
In 1977, Gene Simmons from Kiss was taken to watch Van Halen performing at the night club, who impressed by the group’s talent produced its demo tape that was recorded at Los Angeles Village Recorder and was completed at NYC’s Electric Lady Studios. By mid 1977, the band was offered a recording contract after Ted Templeman and Mo Ostin from Warner Brothers Records watched the group playing at Hollywood’s Starwood, where though the crowd was small, the two were convinced of the group’s potential. Van Halen then made their first recordings at the Sunset Sound Recorders studio, during which time they went on to perform in many South California venues alongside playing a few concerts at Convention Center in Pasadena. When the album was released it right away climbed to the nineteenth place on Billboard pop charts, and was noted for being one of the most well-received debut albums in the history of rock. The album contained songs such as Running with the Devil, and Eruption, both of which are now considered to be the band’s classics. The band’s current line-up includes Eddie Van Halen, Alex Van Halen, Wolfgang Van Halen and David Lee Roth.  
 
In 2007, Van Halen was inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The group has released a total of twelve studio albums and has toured rigorously since its first tour in 1978 where it opened for Black Sabbath, establishing itself as one of the most fun live-performers of all time.
