Rogers Cup Tickets Details
If there is an event that is highly awaited and anticipated, it’s the Rogers Cup. Every year, during July-August, one of the biggest tennis events comes to town once in Montreal and once in Toronto. This tennis tournament has a fan base of thousands, spread over the entire country and who make a point of flying in to these cities to attend the tournament. Rogers Cup Tickets have been a popular commodity since the tournament started all those years ago and are still one of the most sought after in tennis.
Going back to the history of the tournament, we can find it to be illustrious. The event started with men’s tournament the first in 1881 when it was held at the Toronto Lawn Tennis Club. The women’s first tournament started in 1892 and so Rogers Cup holds the record of being a tournament as old as Wimbledon and US Open. For quite some years in the beginning, the tournament was sponsored by tobacco brands which changed to the Rothman’s International in the 1970s, Player’s Limited in the 80s and Du Maurier until the year 2000. Rogers took over the sponsorship of the tournament after the tobacco advertising was banned.
In the year 1989, Andrew Sznajder and Grant Connell made it to the quarterfinals but had to leave the tournament because of Andre Agassi and Ivan Lendl. Afterwards, Agassi was defeated by Lendl. Interesting to note here is that Ivan Lendl is to the day, the most successful player of the tournament in single tennis competitions, who have made it to the finals nine times and have won six out of them. He holds the record of the most wins, the most consecutive wins and the most finals attended. And such is the history of Rogers Cup filled with memorable moments. Another notable event in the history of this tournament is the match between Pete Sampras and Andre Agassi.
The National Bank of Canada is the major sponsor of the tennis events in Toronto and Montreal which are held at the Rexall Centre in Toronto and Uniprix Stadium in Montreal. Rexall Centre is situated in York University and has the capacity to entertain an audience of more than 12,000 people. Formerly Du Maurier Stadium, Uniprix was opened to public in 1993 and has a seating capacity as much as its sister venue. Watching tennis games in these venues have made the event more special and the venues have now a special attachment with the tournament itself.
The winner of the 2010 and the 2009 Rogers Cup was Andy Murray who won the champion defeating the world famous, Roger Federer and Juan Martin del Potro while Roger Federer, Andre Agassi, Rafael Nadal, Ivan Lendl and Guillermo Vilas have been the Rogers Cup winners in different years. The men’s doubles champions for the 2010 season are Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan while the winners for women’s doubles are Gisela Dulko and Flavia Pennetta. Montreal and Toronto presents a merry sight in the two weeks that the event is held and because of the prize money offered as big as 2 million Dollars, the tournament brings out the best of the best tennis talent in and outside the country.
After Caroline Wozniacki and Andy Murray, fans will get to see who will be the lucky winner of the Rogers Cup. And to catch all the tennis buzz live, a couple of Rogers Cup tickets will have to be booked, and that too well in advance because the tournament has a fandom which is spread all over the country and fans from all over fly in to attend the event. Enjoying the summers in the pleasant suns of Montreal and Toronto is an experience no less fun than enjoying a lavish vacation. Following the championship game by game is a fun experience. Rogers Cup Tickets are the most famous tickets for tennis behind Wimbledon and US Open and brings the very best of the tennis to satisfy the appetites of the tennis craving fans.
