The legendary recordings which took place in the studio of Sun Records in Memphis on the December 4, 1956 are known as Million Dollar Quartet. The recordings which were later released internationally consisted of an impromptu jamming session which took place at that day among stars like Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, and Jerry Lee Lewis. It soon became known as the first of the 'Supergroup'.
 
Who was to know, the session which took place by chance at the studios would gain such high levels of appreciation and success internationally. Perkins had arrived that the studio that day with his brothers Jay and Clayton, and W.S. Holland who is a drummer. He came to the studio with the intention experimenting and coming up with something new after the huge success of his single “Blue Suede Shoes”. Perkins wanted to experiment with another version of an old number that day which is title the “Matchbox”. The owner of the recording company happened to be present in the studio with another of his acquired artist and barged in show off his new deal which was the extraordinary singer and piano player Jerry Lee Lewis. He was invited to show his expertise over piano for the session of Perkins and the formation of the recording which is today known as Million Dollar Quartet begun. The newspaper wrote an article the next day which was under the title Million Dollar Quartet, and the performance got its name.
