The Miami Heat is a pro basketball franchise from Miami that has been active since its founding in 1988 in the NBA. It is today a member of the Southeast Division of the league’s Eastern Conference and currently plays at the American Airlines Arena located in its home city, one of America’s most famous cities and one of the best known cities in the world. The official colors of this pro basketball franchise are black, white, deep red and orange. It is owned by Micky Arison and is managed by general manager Pat Riley. Its head coach is Erik Spoelstra and its affiliate in the minor D-League is the Sioux Falls Skyforce. It is a franchise to catch live in action on the arena playing superb pro basketball through the use of Miami Heat tickets; its prowess in basketball is shown by the many awards, titles and championships it calls its own.

The Miami Heat is easily one of the best teams in the NBA because of the many wins it has scored till yet. The great talent in the team has led it to win the coveted NBA Championship, the greatest championship in pro basketball, once in 2006 despite being one of the youngest expansion franchises in the NBA today. It has also won two Conference titles. The first Conference title was won in 2006 when the franchise went on to be crowned number one in the NBA with the NBA Championship. The next Conference titled was won in 2011 and is its latest title. It has also won a number of Division titles; eight in total. The first of these was won in 1997 and then won each year consecutively until 2000. In 2005, the Division title was again won with this stint continuing for two more years to result in two more titles. The latest title was won in 2011 when the team went on to become the Eastern Conference champions.

The Miami Heat was formed as an expansion franchise alongside the Orlando Magic as the two NBA franchises located in the state of Florida. From its debut, it has made it to the playoffs a record sixteen out of twenty four times. It was valued in 2010 at around four hundred and twenty five million dollars by the Forbes Magazine and has brutally defeated the Dallas Mavericks to become the NBA Champions during the NBA Finals in 2006. It has a rich history that began when a group from Miami vied for a franchise in the NBA. This group was led by Billy Cunningham, an NBA Hall of Fame inductee and endorsed by the Miami Sports and Exhibition Authority. It was financially backed by Ted Arison, founder of the Carnival Cruise Lines who became its first majority owned.

However, in 1987, the NBA had decided to award three bids for expansion teams. The first two went to Minneapolis and Charlotte. The third was tied between the city of Orlando and the city of Miami, both located in Florida. Eventually, the NBA decided to award both cities with a franchise and thus the Miami Heat was born. The first players picked included Kevin Edwards, Rony Seikaly, Grant Long, Sylvester Gray, Rory Sparrow, Dwayne Washington and Billy Thompson. During the 1989 NBA Draft, University of Michigan’s Glen Rice was added and so was Syracuse University’s Sherman Douglas on the second pick. Initially located in the Western Division, its players had to go on a nine hundred mile long road trip to reach their nearest division member.

Today, the Miami Heat has a number of fierce rivalries; the first with the New York Knicks which started during their historical four consecutive playoffs that occurred from 1997 to 2000. They also have a fierce rivalry with the Chicago Bulls, a rivalry to be seen live through Miami Heat tickets for a look at two NBA Champions battling it out at the arena.
