Coldplay is a British band from London in the UK and is renowned all over the world for its amazing rock music. It was founded in 1996 by Chris Martin and Johnny Buckland while at the University College London. It has been active since then, having been signed onto a number of record labels including Capitol Records, EMI Records, Parlophone Records and Fierce Panda Records. The journey of the Coldplay began when Chris Marin, lead vocalist, and Jonny Buckland, its lead guitarist, met at one of the UK’s foremost universities. They were soon joined by Guy Berryman and started out as Pectoralz, moving on to become Starfish. Will Champion then joined the group as its drummer, multi-instrumentalist and backing vocalist. Added to Phil Harvey, their manager, this is a rock band that has completely reigned over the music scene. In 1998, the band’s name was changed to Coldplay from Starfish, the same year it released the EP titled as Safety.
 
In 1999, Coldplay released two singles; Brothers & Sisters and The Blue Room, a single released after being signed to the major record label Parlophone. In 2000, they rose to fame after the release of the popular song, Yellow. They soon began work hard at releasing their first album which came out in 2000 and was titled as Parachutes. This album was massively successful and immediately gained a Mercury Prize nomination. In 2002, after live concerts all over the UK, they released the album A Rush of Blood to the Head. This album received rave reviews and won numerous awards including the highly coveted NME Album of the Year Award. 
 
After some more years of touring and working on their album, Coldplay revealed their next masterpiece in 2005. This album was titled as X&Y and received rave reviews as with its previous albums. After three more years of continuous touring, they released the album Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends in 2008. This album received rave reviews and went on to receive several awards. One of the songs from this album, Viva la Vida, received not one but two Grammy Awards as the Song of the Year and Best Vocal Pop Performance by a Duo or Group as well as the Grammy Award for the album. In 2009, four BRIT Award nominations were awarded to Coldplay for the Best British Group, Best British Single, Best British Album and Best British Live Act.
 
In 2009, Coldplay’s song Viva la Vida also received the ASCAP Song of the Year Award with the band ranked fourth on the Rolling Stone Best Artists of the 2000s list. It then released a live album titled as LeftRightLeftRightLeft, recorded on the band's tours. This album was distributed freely during the band’s tour album and also online as a free download. In 2010, they went on a Latin American tour that covered cities in Argentina, Mexico, Brazil and Colombia. After the tour, they went to work on their next album which was finished in 2011.
 
In 2011, Coldplay released the album Mylo Xyloto, following this up with a European tour whose Coldplay tickets were all sold out. This is an achievement that is hardly surprising for a band that has sold over fifty five million records, won seven Grammy Awards from twenty Grammy Award nominations and won a total of forty five awards from a staggering one hundred and twenty eight award nominations.
